Moldova should insist that the agenda of future peace talks between Ukraine and Russia should include a point on the withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria. This option is being considered in Kyiv and Chișinău.

This is reported by the publication Podul.md.

A necessary point

According to the publication's sources in the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kyiv will support the initiative to include in the agenda of the negotiations the demand for the immediate withdrawal of Russian troops from the left bank of the Dniester. After all, they pose a danger to both Ukraine and Moldova. This was, in particular, stated by the head of the Ukrainian diplomatic service, Andriy Sybiga, during his visit to Chișinău in September.

In its turn, the Moldova's Bureau of Reintegration Policies believes that at present the issue of the withdrawal of Russian troops, the transformation of the peacekeeping mission and the liquidation of the ammunition depot in the village of Kovbasna is not the subject of negotiations between Chișinău and Tiraspol.

"These issues belong to negotiations and commitments reached through political, diplomatic and international channels of communication (bilateral and multilateral) with the participation of high-level decision-makers," the head of the Bureau, Alin Gvidiani. said.

At the same time, he noted that such decisions should be made with guarantees of the security of Moldova and its neighbors.

Russian troops in Transnistria

The operational group of Russian troops is operating on the territory of the unrecognized "The Transnistrian Moldavian Republic". It is the successor to the 14th Russian Army, which participated in the military conflict in 1992. As reported by Ukrainian media, the group has 1,500 regular military personnel, up to 100 units of armored vehicles, as well as about a dozen Mi-24 and Mi-8 helicopters.

Previously, we reported that Moldova is ready to return the Transnistrian region only peacefully without the use of force. Russia is trying to highlight the issue of the status of the "The Transnistrian Moldavian Republic" again.
