Mass protests in the Odesa region — what people are demanding
Protests are ongoing in the city of Reni against the increase in water supply and sewage tariffs. According to local residents, the prices are inflated, and the water is of poor quality. The water utility claims that it is impossible to avoid the price increase.
This was reported by the "Bessarabia.Inform" publication.
What are the residents demanding
Three protests have taken place in the city over the past weeks. The participants are opposing the planned increase in water supply and sewage tariffs from January 1, 2025, to 37 UAH/cubic meter and 41 UAH/cubic meter, respectively (currently the cost of services is 27 UAH/cubic meter and 34 UAH/cubic meter). In addition, activists claim that the water coming from the taps is of poor quality, in particular, of an unhealthy color.
What does representatives of the water utility say
The utility company "Vodokanal" calls the tariff increase economically justified and necessary for the further operation of the enterprise. This is due to the increase in the price of electricity, fuel and lubricants, as well as the increase in taxes and the minimum wage.
It should be noted that in the coming months, Ukraine is expected to increase tariffs for utility services, in particular, for heating and water supply. We also wrote about how to avoid inflated gas bills.
