Odesa is developing new rules for advertising and signs in the historic center of the city. After all, the inclusion of the territory in the UNESCO World Heritage List requires preserving the authentic appearance of historical buildings.

This was discussed at a meeting of the executive committee of the Odesa City Council on Thursday, October 24.

What was decided

According to the head of the city's advertising department, Igor Slyusarenko, the municipality is conducting advisory work with owners of shops and entertainment venues. The fact is that large advertisements on the facades of historic buildings or roof structures are prohibited. Instead, entrepreneurs can place signs with an area of up to 3 sq. m.

"Advertising is prohibited, but signs are not prohibited. After all, signs are built on the principles of minimalism," Igor Slyusarenko said.

At the same time, the signs should be designed in a single style.

Too bright

At the meeting of the executive committee, the deputy of the city council Roman Senyk also drew attention to the bright signs and lighting of buildings.

"The first problem is the brightness and placement of signs, especially in the dark. This especially applies to pharmacies that put up their green crosses, especially when the pharmacy is at an intersection. As a driver, I confuse the traffic light with this green cross," he said.

The mayor of Odesa, Gennadiy Trukhanov, agreed that the lighting, especially the green one, should be controlled.

"Look into the details and prepare proposals on what to do with it," the mayor said.

We will remind, that in Odesa, a Russian-language sign was removed from the facade of the historic "Passage Hotel". In addition, part of the building was destroyed in the historic center of the city.
