What is known about strengthening the defense of ports in Greater Odesa

Defense measures will be increased in seaports of Odesa region. This concerns both infrastructure protection and safety of workers.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Communities and Territories Development, Oleksiy Kuleba said this during a visit to Odesa region.

What did the Minister say

Oleksiy Kuleba visited the ports of Odesa, Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi. According to him, the issue of security of ports, personnel and vessels is a priority, because the Ukrainian sea lane is a guarantor of food stability in the world.

"We are strengthening defense measures in each port. We are implementing additional actions that will increase the level of defense capability and security. It is also necessary to provide additional protection for the personnel of enterprises on the territory of the seaport, including equipping locations with mobile shelters," Oleksiy Kuleba said.

He also emphasized that the government will allocate additional funds for the restoration of the infrastructure in the Odesa port. This includes, in particular, the modernization of key facilities and strengthening the overall security of port areas.

It became known why the Russians are shelling the Odesa port. Ukraine will also invite a monitoring mission of the International Maritime Organization to the ports of Greater Odesa. It should record Russian crimes against civilian infrastructure and vessels.
