Members of the Russian State Duma are once again striking with their ideas. This time, MP Bulanov proposed renaming the Black Sea to the "Russian Sea", arguing that it was a "return to the historical name".

A number of Russian media reported it.

Changing the name

According to Bulanov, the Sea has allegedly "always been called that", although history shows something completely different. In different eras, the Black Sea had dozens of names: The Pontic, Scythian, Cossack, and even the Rus Sea in the 11th century. However, these names, like most of history, have nothing to do with modern Russia.

The proposal caused a wave of irony, as they decided to restore "historical justice" only for the name that is beneficial to the current Kremlin policy. Other historical names are not of interest to Russian politicians so far. The idea has already been ridiculed on social media, calling it another attempt to take what does not belong to Russia.

As a reminder, we wrote that fuel oil from Russian tankers has reached Ukrainian territorial waters in the Black Sea
