As confirmed by satellite images, Russian troops began constructing fortifications at the Belbek airfield near Sevastopol a month ago.

It was reported by the pro-Ukrainian Telegram channel Crimean Wind.

What is known about the fortifications

The monitoring group recorded the changes on satellite images taken on October 22 and January 20. The images show reinforced concrete structures being built to protect aircraft from large pieces of debris and close explosions.

"We reported that the Russian military was building shelters at the airfield exactly one month ago. Now we can see the progress of this process," it is said in the statement.

In addition, lightweight frame structures are being erected at the parking areas to protect aircraft from drone attacks. The construction of the fortifications indicates Russia’s readiness to strengthen its defences in a strategically important area on the Crimean peninsula.
