New Russian base in the Black Sea — what is the threat?
Russia continues to build a new naval base in the occupied territory of Abkhazia. However, the aggressor will not be able to effectively use it for military operations in the Black Sea.
This was stated by Dmytro Pletenchuk, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, during a national telethon.
New base
According to the military, the base is not designed for the fleet units that Russia has in service. The parameters of the harbor will not allow for the deployment of large warships. Previously, it was used mainly for the coast guard.
"Whenever it is completed, they will not be able to use it as a base that can either significantly affect the ability to safely deploy Russian ships or as a tool that will solve these problems in the future," explained Pletenchuk.
It should be noted that the Russians began construction of the naval base in Abkhazia in December 2023.
As a reminder, Russians are making every effort to protect the Crimean bridge, but cannot guarantee the safety of the facility. Earlier, the Navy said how many strikes it had launched against the enemy in Crimea.
