Floating power plants in Odesa region — when to expect
This week, the National Power Company "Ukrenergo" is starting the construction of infrastructure to connect the first floating power station, which will have a capacity of 250 MW.
This was announced by Oleksii Brekht, Acting Chairman of Ukrenergo's Board of Directors, at an off-site meeting of the Ukrainian Parliament's Committee on Energy, Housing and Utilities.
"Last week a decree was issued by the Ukrainian government, and our company, as one of the participants in this process, is starting to build the infrastructure this week. This will add 250 MW of capacity to Ukraine's unified energy system," he stated.
What do we know
Recall that the government has ordered the installation of gas-piston and/or gas-turbine units on technical fleet vessels. Contracts for the rental of technical fleet vessels equipped with gas generators, as well as services for hiring personnel for their maintenance, can be carried out without open tenders.
In June, Oleh Kiper, Head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, reported ongoing negotiations with Turkey regarding the connection of megawatt ships to key Black Sea ports, and on the Danube. According to him, ships with a capacity of 250 MW can be located in the ports of Odesa, Yuzhne, and Izmail. However, the Turkish side is only willing to provide such ships if full protection against possible attacks from the Russian Federation is ensured.
