Spies hunted for F-16 in Odesa — SSU exposed their network
Military counterintelligence neutralized a large-scale agent network of the Russian Main Intelligence Directorate. Its members spied on the military in five regions at once, in particular, in the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions.
This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine on Tuesday, December 17.
Undercover agents
During the special operation, 12 Russian agents and their informants were exposed. The leader of their group was in the Dnipropetrovsk region and used fake IDs of a Red Cross volunteer and an employee of the anti-corruption bureau. He recruited accomplices from Zaporizhzhia, as well as Kharkiv, Sumy, Mykolaiv and Odesa regions. Some of them are deserters from the ranks of the Armed Forces.
The spies were exploring Ukrainian air defense firing positions and trying to identify the locations of secret military airfields where F-16 fighters could be based. In addition, the agents were looking for addresses of enterprises involved in the production of electronic warfare equipment. They secretly used their acquaintances, in particular, Ukrainian military personnel to obtain information.
What will be with the spies
Military counterintelligence detained the organizer of the network and four of his key accomplices. They were informed of suspicion of treason and dissemination of information about the movement and location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. If the court finds the detainees guilty, they will get eight years' imprisonment with confiscation of property.
It should be recalled that a Russian spy was sentenced in Odesa. However, he escaped punishment, since he is in the territory of the Russian Federation. The SSU also detained a professor who was directing missiles at Mykolaiv.
