DIU maritime drone makes history, destroying a Russian helicopter
Soldiers of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine destroyed an aerial target with a Magura V5 maritime drone. It happened during a battle in the Black Sea. Intelligence officers claim that this is the first such case in history.
This was reported by the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.
What is known
According to the intelligence, on December 31, during a naval battle near Cape Tarkhankut in the temporarily occupied Crimea, a Ukrainian Magura V5 fired R-73 SeeDragon missiles at a Russian Mi-8 helicopter. The helicopter was destroyed.
"Another similar enemy helicopter was hit by fire and managed to reach the base airfield," the DIU said.
It should be noted that the Magura V5 is a Ukrainian multi-purpose surface drone. It is capable of surveillance, reconnaissance, patrolling, search and rescue, mine countermeasures, and maritime security, but is primarily known for its strike role. The drone was first presented at the International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF), which took place in July 2023 in Istanbul.
As a reminder, the use of naval drones turned the tide of the war in the Black Sea. We also reported how many Russian ships were hit by Magura V5 drones.
